Rugby's Mill Green becomes fourth WCS Care home to be recognised as 'outstanding' by the CQC
Residents in Rugby are delighted that their Mill Green home has become the fourth service run by WCS Care to be recognised as 'outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Situated on Newbold Road in Newbold-on-Avon, the home provides rehabilitation, respite and long-term residential care for people with physical disabilities or long-term conditions.
Mill Green received the highest accolade after an unannounced inspection by the regulator in June, becoming only the second home in the town to be officially noted as 'outstanding' - Dewar Close on Beech Drive, a home for older people also run by WCS Care, was recognised earlier this year.
Attleborough Grange and Drayton Court in Nuneaton - both WCS Care homes - were also highlighted as 'outstanding' in 2016, meaning the Warwickshire-based charity is one of only two care home groups in England to achieve the highest recognition in four of its homes.
The CQC report said residents at Mill Green 'were at the heart of the service' and that the team 'understood the importance of being partners-in-care with people who lived at the home'.
It also recognised that the team 'took time to understand people's histories and dreams and encouraged them to be ambitious in making decisions about their day-to-day lives', and how they treated 'people's right to choose how to live their lives' among the highest priorities.
One resident told the inspector that they were initially anxious about moving into a care home but were 'overwhelmed' by the team's 'understanding, thoughtfulness and willingness to support them to regain control of their day-to-day life'.
The report added that residents felt the team were 'polite, caring, real darlings' and 'treat you like family' - a sentiment echoed by relatives who said 'there's a cheerfulness about the place'.
Mick Clarke, 53, grew up on his family's farm before moving to Mill Green on Newbold Road, and said: 'I love living at Mill Green - it truly deserves to be recognised as outstanding and I am proud to call it my home.
'The team here are fantastic and make it a fun place to be - I'm a keen gardener and really enjoy craftwork, and the team are only too happy to support me to do the things I always have done.'
The CQC also highlighted the positive impact activities like Oomph! Wellness and gardening had on the lives of people living at the home and stated 'people and staff share the moment of fun together, which developed trust and positive relationships'.
