Mill Green is a care home that provides long-term, and respite, care for adults with physical disabilities and lifelong conditions.
At Mill Green we've created an atmosphere that encourages friendship and socialising. Mill Green has two small households, both on the ground floor. The households share a lounge and dining area, with a kitchenette where people can make their own snacks and drinks if they choose to.
We've 15 bedrooms all of which have ensuite facilities. Permanent residents can decorate their bedroom in their preferred style and colours to make their spaces their own. We adapt our spaces to meet the specific needs of residents to make mobility as easy as possible. And we make sure we have facilities, such as computer access, so residents can continue to pursue their individual interests.
Residents take part in the daily living routines of the house, such as shopping, cooking and gardening if they want to. The back garden includes patio areas and raised beds for residents to grow flowers, fruit or vegetables. And we have a small domestic laundry where a number of our residents prefer to do their own washing.
As a result of being active in the community, our residents are well known locally and enjoy visits to local pubs, restaurants and shops. As part of our activity provision, WCS Care employs dedicated Community Musicians who deliver one-to-one or group music-based activities.
Our Memory Maker minibus provides regular, local trips for residents, including those who need to use a wheelchair. Relatives are welcome to join our trips so families can make new memories together.
Jo grew up in a family where compassion and helping others were a way of life. This shaped her belief in the importance of making a difference, which led her to choose roles that help people thrive.
Since joining WCS Care in 2010, Jo has used her experience and values to support others as a carer, People Co-ordinator and now as Home Manager.
Rachel has been Wellbeing Co-ordinator at Mill Green since 2022, and before that worked in various frontline care roles at Drovers House.
Rachel enjoys being able to spend time with residents, getting to know them and their families, so she can plan activities and trips they will enjoy. She says she loves to make things happen for residents; whether that's organising a holiday to somewhere they have wanted to go, or an activity based on interests they have always enjoyed.
Here are just a few of the faces that make up our team at Mill Green.
No matter what their role is, every member of our team is a carer at heart and contributes to the day-to-day experience of our residents. We know we’re only as good as our last act of care, so we recruit team members who embody our values whilst also simply being themselves, bringing all of their different personalities, interests and passions to work to create a diverse team of carers.
